Steve Buscemi's Life

Actor and director, Steve Buscemi was born on 13 December 1957 and used to be with New York Fire Department. He was also a ice-cream van driver, a furniture remover, and a stand-up comedian.

Steve Buscemi explained in a Guardian/NFT interview why he did stand-up:

"The reason I did it was because I didn't know of any other way to break into acting. My greatest hope was to get discovered as a comedian and get on a sit-com."

Steve Buscemi has acted in a wide variety of films. He has also directed movies and television drama like episodes of The Sopranos (in which he has also played Tony Blundetto), Oz and Homicide.

Steve Buscemi's directorial films, Trees Lounge, Animal Factory and Lonesome Jim have been well received. Trees Lounge, in which Buscemi had a major role and Lonesome Jim also featured his brother Michael.

Steve Buscemi is involved in other creative collaborations with his brother as described in his week in winter 2005.

Animal Factory was based on the novel by Ed Bunker, whom Buscemi acted with in Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. Buscemi was Mr Pink and Bunker was Mr Blue.

Other acting highlights include the Coen brothers' Fargo and The Big Lebowski.

In the course of his busy career, Buscemi has been nominated for several awards - many of them, including a Golden Globe, for his acting on Ghost World.

In 2007 Steve Buscemi directed and acted in Interview, which also starred Sienna Miller.

Steve Buscemi lives in New York with his wife Jo and son, Lucian, who, when just fifteen, was in a band called Stungun.
