Thomas Sangster comes from an arts background. His father Mark is an actor, who has played a hyena in The Lion King on stage and his mother Tasha Bertram was a principal soloist at the London City Ballet.

Thomas Sangster's mother Tasha Bertram is a relative of Hugh Grant, with whom Thomas appeared in Love Actually. He played Liam Neeson's son Sam.

Thomas Sangster was still a school boy in south London, when he started building up an extensive credits list as an actor.

Thomas Sangster was cast by Steven Spielberg in the title role of Tintin for a three-movie adaptation of Tintin's adventures.

Sangster's previous roles included playing the oldest child in the care of Nanny McPhee, and the voice of Ferb in the Disney Channel's cartoon series Phineas and Ferb.

One of Thomas Sangster's unusual roles was playing a ten-year-old Adolf Hitler in the miniseries Hitler: The Rise of Evil.

In 2007, Thomas Sangster played the leading role of Romulus in The Last Legion.

In 2009, he played Paul McCartney in the film Nowhere Boy.

Sangster was also cast as Jojen Reed in the TV fantasy drama Game of Thrones.
