America Ferrera

America Ferrera was born on 18 April 1984 in Los Angeles. Her parents are from Honduras.

America Ferrera is most famous for playing Betty Suarez, the central character in Ugly Betty.

Ferrera already had a number of film, TV and theatrical credits to her name and had won several awards including a Sundance Jury Award for Best Actress for her performance in Real Women Have Curves.

Her TV credits include roles in Touched By an Angel, Plainsong and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Past film credits include How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer, Lords of Dogtown and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, which earned her an ALMA Award nomination.

ABC's Ugly Betty site's biography of America Ferrara refers to forthcoming films including:

" ... Ferrera will begin production on the bilingual independent film Towards Darkness ... Ferrera recently completed work in a Spanish speaking role in the independent film "Boy, Immigrant."

ABC News reported in January 2007:

"She's [Ferrera] a few classes away from getting a degree from the University of Southern California.

"'My mom reminded me just the other day [that] I still owe her my diploma,' she said. 'I have a semester left.'"

In 2007, America Ferrara won the Emmy for best comedy actress.
