Gemili is of Moroccan-Iranian descent. He was educated at Dartford Grammar School and then went to University in east London.
Before becoming an athlete, Adam Gemili played on loan from Dagenham & Redbridge for Thurrock and had been on Chelsea's books as a schoolboy in their youth academy.
