Aged 33, when he entered The Apprentice, Ben Stanberry was educated at the Salesian College in Hampshire and the American Institute for Foreign Study in New York, and went on to gain a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in law.

Ben Stanberry has been a nursing auxiliary, an officer in the T.A. and a temporary attaché with HM Diplomatic Service in West Africa.

He has also lectured in law at Cardiff University.

Ben Stanberry became a Director of the Centre for Law Ethics and Risk in Telemedicine, which became Avienda Limited in April 2001. A co-founder of Avienda, Stanberry became MD.

Ben describes himself as an optimist, having beaten cancer. Ben ran the London Marathon in under four hours, just one year after finishing chemotherapy for advanced cancer.

Ben Stanberry said of Alan Sugar: "Sir Alan is exactly as I expected. I admire and respect him. That doesn't mean I like him."

And it proved mutual, as in The Apprentice, Ben Stanberry became the first candidate to be fired.

Ben Stanberry went on to run a health consultancy business, Avienda, employing fellow Apprentice candidate Mani Sandher as an advisor.

Ben Stanberry also became a Conservative Party Councillor in Barnes, London, however he resigned in 2007.
