Chris Aiden-Lee Jackson became the Professor of Geology at Imperial College in 2015.

His main areas of research are tectono-stratigraphic evolution of extensional basins; structural and stratigraphic development of salt basins; and dynamic subsurface processes.

Chris Jackson heralds from Derby and from 1983 to 1988 he went to Wilmorton Primary School.

From 1988 to 1993 he attended Noel Baker Community School.

Chris Jackson gained a BSc in Geology at the University of Manchester, where he went on to do a PhD on the Evolution of Rift Basins,

After a couple of years at the Department of Geophysics, Norsk Hydro (now Statoil), in Bergen in Norway, he returned to the UK in 2004 to pursue an academic career at Imperial College in London, where he rose from lecturer to Professor.

In 2017, the BBC announced that Professor Chris Jackson was to take part in an expedition to one of the world’s most dangerous but least known volcanoes, the Virunga Volcanoes, in a BBC Two series, Jungle Volcano.
