Chevy Chase News
In January 2007, the BBC reported on Chevy Chase's article in the New York Times that mentioned how he had dealt with his addiction to painkillers.
On Tuesday night at the Kennedy Center, Chevy Chase hosted an awards ceremony staged by People for the American Way.
He was critical of George W. Bush and his team, saying, for example:
"This guy in office is an uneducated, real lying schmuck . . . and we still couldn't beat him with a bore like Kerry."
On the website of People for the American Way, there was a statement by Ralph G. Neas on the 12/14 Spirit of Liberty Celebration:
"Chevy Chase's improvised remarks caught everyone off guard, and were inappropriate and offensive. However, this was a blip in an evening with many speakers who addressed substantively and effectively the issues facing the country right now.
"It was not what I would have said, and certainly not the language People For the American Way would ever use in discussing any President of the United States."
