Steve Davis News
17 April 2008: Steve Davis to keep going
The BBC has reported that Steve Davis has said that he will carry on playing professional snooker, despite being faced with playing qualifiers next season.
Steve Davis is set to drop out of the top 16 next season.
18/12/05 - Steve Davis gets to final of UK Championships
Although Steve Davis was beaten by Ding Junhui in the final today, Davis had a great tournament.
According to the BBC report on Davis, he attributed some of his improvement to Stephen Feeney, who has helped him with his 'SightRight' device, saying:
"At first I thought Stephen might be just another nutter but he's not."
In passing - well done to Adrian Humphries of the Racing Post who continues his excellent tipping record in snooker after advising Ding before the start of the tournament.
10/10/04 - Snooker Revolution?
Could we now see a start of a revolution in snooker? During the final of the UK Grand Prix tournament today, Ian McCulloch broke off well, but Ronnie O'Sullivan was still capable of potting a ball from the break and go on to take the frame.
Analysing for the BBC, Steve Davis came out with a revolutionary thought. Are today's players too good at potting for the traditional method of breaking to be the most effective first shot?
He alluded to Alex Higgins, getting fed up with Davis in his heydays and breaking off against the cushion and instead of returning the white to baulk nestling the ball at the far end off the table, thereby leaving no pot and an opportunity for a better safety shot next time round.
Although Willie Thorne slammed the idea, I think Steve Davis has shown the sort of invention that marks out great men.
The great chess grandmasters have always innovated on current opening theory, maybe it's time for snooker stars to do the same.
