12 May 2005: Malcolm Glazer wins control of Manchester United

After Malcolm Glazer took over the 28.7% stake owned by Irish racing tycoons JP MacManus and John Magnier, his stake in Manchester United reached 57%.

Additionally it was reported that businessman Harry Dobson had sold his 6.54% stake in Manchester United PLC at 300 pence a share. The purchaser was believed to be Malcolm Glazer.

The 50% threshold having been passed, the next crucial level that Glazer may be eyeing up is 75% plus one share, then he can delist Manchester United from the stock exchange and Mr Glazer could transfer his debt onto the club.

Shares in Manchester United closed just over 299p.
