2 May 2005: Matthew Stevens narrowly loses out again.

Once again Matthew Stevens was narrowly pipped at the post in the final of the World Snooker Championships. This time, the winner was a qualifier, Shaun Murphy.

Matthew Stevens had equalised at 16-16, but Murphy took the final two frames to take the title.

Although both players showed nerves, it was a quality final and all credit to Murphy who had to overcome three previous world champions, Steve Davis, John Higgins and Peter Ebdon on his way to the final.


16 December 2004: Matthew Stevens wins $500,000 in the Pacific Poker Open

This week snooker star, Matthew Stevens won the 888.com Pacific Poker Open - the UK's richest poker tournament.

Darts player Phil Taylor and tennis player, Yevgeny Kafelnikov came second and third.

After his victory, Stevens said: "This is absolutely unbelievable and I am in a complete daze... It's a dream to win a poker tournament having only been playing for a short time... I was quietly confident going into the final but if at the start of the tournament you'd have told me I'd be winning it, I'd have thought you were barmy."

Stevens had to wade through a strong field comprising of poker professionals and online qualifiers as well as celebs.
