Michael Vaughan, who has struggled with his form since coming back from injury has stepped down from the England cricket captaincy. Vaughan's announcement was lauded for its heart-felt nature.

David and Victoria in the news

There's disappointing news for David Beckham as doctors have confirmed that his knee injury will keep him out of England's vital Euro qualifiers.

Beckham will not play before mid-October.

It has been a tough start in L.A. for Beckham, but as biogs.com has often written before, there's nobody quite like David Beckham for bouncing back from the lows that he finds himself in.

Meanwhile it's been revealed that Victoria Beckham will have a guest role in Ugly Betty.

Keira Knightley on fame

The Biennale Cinema 64th Venice Film Festival kicks off tonight and the opening ceremony is followed by the screening of Atonement, directed by Joe Wright and starring Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, Vanessa Redgrave, Tomola Garai and Brenda Blethyn.

The BBC had an interesting report on Knightley's view on the impact of fame, quoting her:

"Once you become famous you get completely dehumanised. I think people forget there is a person in there trying to deal with it "

Other notable films being screened at Venice are Sleuth with Michael Caine and Jude Law and Woody Allen's Cassandra, which stars Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor.

In The News (26 August 2007)

The BBC and others have reported on the plans for the memorial service for Princess Diana on the 10th anniversary of her death.

Prince William and Prince Harry are to give readings. The service will include two prayers written by Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams.

Among those invited are the Queen, the Duchess of Cornwall, Sir Elton John, Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, Sir Cliff Richard, and Lord Attenborough.

Lindsay Lohan will spend one day in jail after pleading guilty to drink driving and drug charges as part of a plea bargain.

David Hasselhoff has won undisclosed libel damages from OK! magazine over claims that he was drunk and abusive at a nightclub.
