Katie Derham

Katie Derham was born on 18 June 1970 in Canterbury.

Katie Derham studied at Cheadle Hulme School in Stockport, and Magdalene College, Cambridge, where she gained a first class degree in economics.

She gained work experience at BBC North and ended up spending four years with the BBC, evolving from researching on Radio 4's 'Moneybox, to presenting on Radio 5 Live's Moneycheck and editing Radio 4's Financial World Tonight.

In 1996 Katie Derham became a reporter on various BBC television programmes and then moved over to ITN, where she worked as an arts correspondent, before being promoted to co-presenting the ITV Lunchtime News with Alastair Stewart and co-presenting London Tonight.

Additionally, Katie Derham presents The Full Works Hall of Fame on Classic FM, and has hosted the ITV Classical Brits at the Royal Albert Hall.

Continuing the classical music theme, in 2008, Katie Derham was selected as a candidate on BBC Two's Maestro.

However, she and Alex James narrowly missed out on being in the final three left in Maestro for the final.

Katie Derham has played the piano since she was 5.

Katie Derham is married to restaurateur John Vincent.

In April 2010 the BBC announced that Katie Derham would be at the heart of their coverage of the 2010 Proms on BBC Television.

She had already joined Radio 3 in January 2010 to focus on music presentation.
