Martel Maxwell was brought up by her single mother Anne in Dundee.

She attended Dundee High School and studied law gaining an LLB from The University of Edinburgh.

She soon realised that working in the law was not for her and got into journalism after being selected (from 3000 hopefuls) as The Sun's first graduate trainee.

At the behest of The Sun, Martel Maxwell did a postgrad in newspaper journalism at City University in London.

Whilst at The Sun, she had a variety of roles before focussing on entertainment news.

She went on to interview celebrities for ITV’s Lorraine, and gained miscellaneous front of camera credits for BBC Scotland.

Martel Maxwell has written a novel Scandalous.

In March 2017, the BBC announced that Martel Maxwell would co-host Homes Under The Hammer, joining Martin Roberts and Dion Dublin.
