On 7 May 2015 Mhairi Black, representing the Scottish National Party, was elected MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South. The previous incumbent was Labour's shadow foreign secretary Douglas Alexander, who had a 16,610 majority.

She became Scotland’s youngest MP since 1667, aged just 20 years and 237 days.

In Parliament, she serves on the Work and Pensions Committee.

Shortly after being elected an MP, Mhairi Black graduated with a first class honours degree in politics from Glasgow University.

She supports Partick Thistle, and before she was an MP tweeted controversial remarks about Celtic, that made their way into the news.

She impressed many with her maiden speech in parliament and was one of the people NME listed in their 2015 people of the year.
