Sedgefield and the War in Iraq
It remains to be seen how the war in Iraq has affected Tony Blair's popularity in Sedgefield, but it certainly seems to be a hot topic.
Yesterday The Scotsman reported:
"In interviews for regional newspapers and broadcasters in his Sedgefield constituency on the first day of his formal General Election tour of Britain, Mr Blair was pressed on whether, given the outcome on WMD, he thought he retained the electorate’s trust.
"He said voters had trusted him to end boom and bust economics, and to reform the public services and, he argued, he had delivered on both.
"'Iraq, it was a difficult decision,' he said. 'I took the decision, on the evidence we had, that it was better on balance to remove Saddam than leave him (in power)'".
Meanwhile Sedgefield Against War have announced that they are holding a public meeting on Thursday 14th April at 7pm, at the Rafters bar, Hope Inn, Sedgefield.
