- Tom Cruise was born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV on 3 July 1962 in Syracuse, New York, USA.

- Other important early films for Tom Cruise were The Outsiders and Risky Business in 1983, and Top Gun in 1986. 1986 also the release of an important film for Tom Cruise's destiny, The Color of Money. It was the film that brought him close to Paul Newman, who, in turn, got Cruise into motor racing, and thus he met his first wife to be Mimi Rogers. Rogers was previously married to Scientology counsellor Jim Rogers, and according to Tiscali's excellent biography of Tom Cruise, she introduced Cruise to Scientology, which he joined in 1990.
