Alfonso Soriano
- Alfonso Soriano was born on January 7, 1976 in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. Soriano was signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees in 1998. In February 2004 he was traded by the Yankees to the Texas Rangers (in exchange for Alex Rodriguez and cash).
- Alfonso Soriano was acquired by the Washington Nationals in a December 2005 trade with Texas. Soriano had been insistent that he wanted to remain in his usual position of a second baseman, however in March 2006, after previous refusals he agreed to play in the outfield.
-
Previously, when Alfonso Soriano was at Texas, he clung to second base due to his status as a two-time All-Star at that position. Critics pointed out that his All-Star status was not through his defense, in which he regularly led all second basemen in errors.
-
Soriano's salary in 2005 whilst at the Texas Rangers was reported as $7,500,000.
- At the end of 2006 Alfonso Soriano joined the Chicago Cubs.
