Germany 2006 was Trinidad's first World Cup appearance, and former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke came out of international retirement for the tournament.
As well as Yorke, Trinidad and Tobago have veterans in Russell Latapy and goalkeeper, Shaka Hislop.
After a poor start to the group, Dutch coach Leo Beenhakker took over and transformed the inexperienced squad into a well drilled team. However, most of their players play at a low level of club football, so they don’t have much top flight experience.
Trinidad and Tobago are ranked 51st in the world. They were expected to have a very tough time getting through group B, which contains England, Sweden and Paraguay, however they got off to a fair start wth a goalless draw against Sweden in spite of beng down to ten men for the second half.
They held England for 80 minutes, but went down 2-0 to a couple of late goals from Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard.
They lost their third match, which was against Paraguay, 2-0, although they would not have qualified even if they had won.
