World Cup 2006

The first FIFA World Cup was held in 1930, when the FIFA President Jules Rimet got 13 teams to travel to South America to play the football winners of the 1928 Olympics.

Since then Brazil has by far the best record - winning five tournaments. Germany, the hosts of 2006, and Italy tie for the second best record with three World Cup victories.
