July 2007: Mikhail Youzhny

Mikhail Youzhny went out in the fourth round of Wimbledon after losing to Rafael Nadal 4-6 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-2.

Youzhny was unlucky, having taken a good two set lead before being troubled by his bad back.

Previously, The Times had an interesting report on Youzhny's third round straight sets victory at Wimbledon over Nieminen, in which they discuss his temperament:

"The main target of his outbursts, however, was a rather gentle, elderly man beside the court who happens to be his coach. This is Boris Sopkin, who is a retired professor of mathematics at Moscow Technical University and seems far too nice to be away from home playing sponge to Youzhny's angst.

"Youzhny insisted that his anger was directed at himself, not his coach, and that Sopkin happened to be the only person there with whom he could communicate his frustration."


June 2007: Federer too good for Mikhail Youzhny

Roger Federer beat Mikhail Youzhny 7-6 6-4 6-4 to reach the French Open quarter-finals. Youzhny had been seeded 13, but what no match for the world number one.


May 2007: Mikhail Youzhny loses in the Munich Open final

Youzhny had seemed to have done the hard work beating Tomas Berdych in straight sets in the semi-final, but it wasn't to be, as he fell to the unseeded local Philipp Kohlschreiber 2-6 6-3 6-4 in the final.


March 2007: Another good tournament for Mikhail Youzhny

Following his victory at the World Indoor Tournament, Mikhail Youzhny reached another final, only to be beaten by Roger Federer.

Youzhny did well in the Dubai Open, including beating defending champion Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals, but lost to Federer 6-4 6-3.


February 2007: Congratulations to Mikhail Youzhny!

Mikhail Youzhny beat Ivan Ljubicic 6-2 6-4 to win the World Indoor Tournament.

It is Youzhny's first title since winning in St Petersburg in 2004.

February 2007: Mikhail Youzhny lost to his nemesis Ivan Ljubicic in the semi-finals of the Zagreb Open 2-6 6-3 7-5. Ljubicic also beat Mikhail Youzhny in the quarter-finals at Doha.

February 2007: Mikhail Youzhny, seeded fourth, has reached the semi-finals of the Zagreb Open after beating Marc Gicquel of France 7-5, 6-2.

January 2007: Mikhail Youzhny got off to a good start to 2007 as he and and Nenad Zimonjic won the doubles title at the ExxonMobil Qatar Open. They beat Leander Paes and Martin Damm 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
