David Michael Hasselhoff was born on 17 July 1952 in Baltimore, USA.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, David Hasselhoff is the most watched TV star in the world.
Hasselhoff's achievement is largely down to his starring roles in two very popular series: Knight Rider in the 1980s and Baywatch in the 1990s.
David Hasselhoff played Michael Knight in Knight Rider, for which he gained a People's Choice Award as Most Popular Actor.
In Baywatch, Hasselhoff played lifeguard Mitch Buchannon alongside the likes of Pamela Anderson, Traci Bingham and Carmen Electra.
David Hasselhoff not only acted in Baywatch, but was executive producer for a period and owned a significant and lucrative stake in the show.
Later on in his career, Hasselhoff enjoyed a cult status in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He sold millions of records there including, at the end of the Cold War, Looking for Freedom, a cover version of a 1970s German hit, Auf Der Strasse Nach Suden.
David Hasselhoff served as a judge on America's Got Talent, along with Piers Morgan, Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne.
