Amy Dowden's Biography
Amy Dowden was born in Caerphilly, South Wales.
She began dancing at the age of eight.
Principally a Latin dancer, since 2011 she has partnered Ben Jones and their numerous achievements include reaching the semi-finals of the World Championship in 2015.
They are based in the West Midlands.
In 2017, the BBC announced that Amy Dowden, aged 26, would be the first professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing to come from Wales.
She was paired with Brian Conley. They were the fourth couple to be eliminated.
She lists fellow Strictly Come Dancing professional Katya Jones as amongst her dance inspirations.
In 2018 Amy Dowden was partnered with Danny John-Jules.
They were the seventh pair to be voted off Strictly.
In 2019, she was paired with Karim Zeroual. They made it to the final and ended up joint runners-up.
In Strictly Come Dancing in 2020, she was partnered by JJ Chalmers. They came sixth.
In 2020, she made the Bafta-winning documentary Strictly Amy: Crohn's and Me.
In 2022, Amy was paired with James Bye. They were fifth couple to be voted off.
In December 2022, Amy wrote about having Crohn's Disease.
In the Strictly 2022 Christmas special she was paired with George Webster.
In 2023, she revealed how she suffered a life-threatening condition while undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.
In June 2024, the BBC revealed that Amy would be one of the professional dancers for the next series of Strictly, after a health check showed "no evidence of disease".
On 26 August 2024, BBC1 broadcast a documentary, Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me.
