Saku Chandrasekara was a 50-year-old intelligence analyst for Herefordshire Council, mainly focussed on health, when she appeared on Bake Off in 2023.
Previously, she had been a research consultant and director at Data Orchard.
She was born in Sri Lanka and gained a BSc in Agriculture from the University of Peradeniya.
She highlights the traditional flavours of her heritage in her baking.
Saku didn’t have an oven until she was 18 and only started baking in 2003 when she moved with her husband to the UK.
Self-taught, she started baking more when she became a mother.
She gave an interview with BBC Hereford & Worcester in the early days of Bake Off.
Saku was eliminated in round 7 of Bake Off.
