Ashley McKenzie was born in Queen's Park in London.

He had a difficult childhood and went to a special needs school, where he was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), and had asthma and eczema.

He has spent time in a young offenders' institution and has received bans from judo for drinking and fighting.

Nevertheless, Ashley McKenzie progressed at judo and represented Team GB in the London Olympics 2012. However, he lost in the first round of the men's -60kg category to Hiroaki Hiraoka.

Ashley McKenzie was 23-years-old when he entered Celebrity Big Brother in the summer of 2012.

Ashley McKenzie lost to world champion Yeldos Smetov in the second round of the men's judo competition at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
