Big Brother 6 housemate and former Conservative Party activist, Derek Laud comes from London.

Right-winger, Derek was a political researcher who has written speeches for Margaret Thatcher and Michael Heseltine.

In the early days of Big Brother, Derek Laud described himself as having worked in private equity finance, and as having written feature pieces and six short children's stories.

Christine and Neil Hamilton were dining with Derek when they were falsely accused of a sexual offence. Christine Hamilton said: "I will watch Big Brother for the first time because of Derek. I told him to go for it but be warned you are on parade for 24 hours a day."

Christine Hamilton has been Derek's publicity manager since he left Big Brother.

Derek Laud worked for former Conservative MP, Michael Brown from 1982 to 1990, and was nicknamed 'golly' by Tory MPs.

During the live transmission of Big Brother, Craig asked, "You've slept with a couple of famous people, haven't you, Derek?", to which Derek Laud responded coyly: "Maybe, maybe not".

Derek was the 10th eviction from Big Brother 6 (losing out to Eugene in the penultimate week) and told Davina that he was happy to be out in time for his birthday on the 9th August.

Derek Laud, who is gay, became the first and only black master of foxhounds when he took that role with New Forest Foxhounds in 1999. Derek is an acquaintance of Camilla Parker Bowles.

In the 1990s Derek Laud became the first black member of the far right group, the Monday Club.

Derek Laud withdrew as a candidate in the 1997 general election after being convicted of a drink-driving offence in the US.

Derek once told Lennox Lewis's mother, "Violet, you have brought up a beautiful boy". Derek was known to take afternoon tea at Barbara Cartland's estate.

Derek said on his entry to the Big Brother house: "I'm charismatic, I'm different and I would want to win"; however Derek believes he could be expelled first "because I like to kill furry animals".

Alan Clark in his diaries referred to Derek Laud as "gay, intelligent, ludicrously self-assured."

On Big Brother Little Brother Derek Laud said that one of his hobbies is silence.

In May 2006, in Derek Laud's interview with NTLworld, when asked whether he would get back into politics, he replied: "I don't think so. I haven't even kept up with my subscriptions to the Conservative party!"

In the same interview, Derek mentioned that he keeps in touch with Davina; he was going to Kemal's father's 50th birthday party in July; he had gone to Kinga's 21st birthday; and that Roberto and Eugene often join him for a cup of tea.
