Mikey Hughes's Biography

Michael Hughes, often referred to as Mikey Hughes, was a 33 year old radio producer from Kilwinning in Ayrshire when he entered Big Brother series 9.

Mikey Hughes has written an article about his life, in which he discusses his time at St. Michaels, in Denmark and in Portsmouth.

Mikey Hughes was born with Stickler's syndrome, which left him partially sighted and became totally blind after haemorrhaging during an operation to remove a cataract when he was 23.

In spite of losing his sight half way through the course, Mikey Hughes gained his MPhil Degree.

Mikey Hughes was a Research Associate with Proctor and Gamble, and then became a researcher for BBC Radio's Good Morning Scotland.

He then went on to work as a producer and reporter for Insight Radio, a station set up for blind and partially sighted listeners.

Michael Hughes also had a few gigs as a stand up comedian before entering Big Brother.

On 7 June 2008, The Daily Mirror reported that Mikey Hughes had a website trading in militaria and that he "is obsessed with Nazi memorabilia."

The Mirror article also reported that just before Big Brother, Mikey Hughes had broken up with his girlfriend Angela and that he had previously been in The Weakest Link.

Mikey Hughes became the runner-up in Big Brother 2008. It was a close vote between him and eventual Big Brother winner Rachel. Mikey got 48.7% of the vote.

Subsequently, he graduated with a PhD in Economic and Social History from the University of Glasgow.
