If anyone dominated the first programme of the BBC's Castaway reality TV series it was Jonathan Shearer, who was 42 at the time.

Jonathan Shearer appeared to revel in conflict and the self-confessed anarchist took the attitude that if he got on people's nerves that was their problem.

Nevertheless Jonathan emerged as the castaways' earliest leader figure.

Jonathan Shearer continued to feature as a leading figure in Castaway and by the second week he had still not washed thereby irritating the other castaways with his smell.

Jonathan Shearer proved prominent throughout Castaway and ended up being voted the ultimate castaway.

Jonathan Shearer, who heralds from Bonhill in Dunbartonshire, has spent many years living and working abroad in countries such as Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Vietnam and Nigeria.

More recently he was leading a nomadic lifestyle on Benbecula Island in Scotland.

Jonathan is a keen ornithologist and is an RSPB walks and education officer, having spent most of his adult life as a teacher.

The Sunday Mail had a report on how Castaway's Jonathan Shearer "is locked in a bitter custody battle over a secret love child".

According to a report in the Sunday Mail, entitled Star in Love Tug Pain, Jonathan Shearer became a father weeks before he flew out to Castaway.
