Steve Guttenberg was born on 24 August 1958 in Brooklyn, New York,

In the 1980s, Steve Guttenberg acted in more films than any other actor in the Screen Actors Guild apart from Gene Hackman.

In 1977, Guttenberg made his film debut in The Chicken Chronicles. Numerous film credits followed including The Boys from Brazil, 3 Men and a Baby, 3 Men and a Little Lady, Short Circuit, Cocoon and the first four Police Academy films.

Steve Guttenberg's TV credits include The Day After, The Poseidon Adventure and as Woody Goodman in Veronica Mars.

Regarding Steve Guttenberg's work with homeless youngsters, he told the Hallmark Channel:

"I've always wanted to help people who were homeless and I found that there were a lot of children who, after they were emancipated from foster care, have nowhere to go, so I built Guttenhouse, which is a two-story co-op with two apartments, four bedrooms, and four girls live there. It's been open since June 13, 2000. It's had about 15 girls go through there already. They go in and learn all kinds of life skills. They come out about a year or two later and they jump into the world."

In Dancing with the Stars series 6, Steve Guttenberg danced with Anna Trebunskaya.

Steve Guttenberg and Anna Trebunskaya were the third couple to be eliminated from Dancing with the Stars.
