Marlee Matlin was born on 24 August 1965 in Morton Grove, Illinois.

Marlee Matlin lost her hearing when she was 18 months old.

She won an Oscar for her debut film role as Sarah Norman in Children of a Lesser God.

Matlin was just 21 and at the time was the youngest winner of the Best Actress Oscar.

Her other film credits include Walker, Hear No Evil, and It's My Party.

Marlee Matlin's TV credits are extensive and notably include her role as Josephine 'Joey' Lucas, a professional pollster, who has a mutual attraction to Josh in the West Wing.

Marlee Matlin was nominated for Emmy Awards for her performances in Law & Order: SVU, Seinfeld, Picket Fences, and The Practice.

As well as her work as an actress, Marlee Matlin has written children's books, executive produced Eddie's Million Dollar Cook Off and supported various charities including the Red Cross.

In Dancing with the Stars series 6, Marlee Matlin partnered Fabian Sanchez.

Marlee and Fabian danced well throughout the series, but were eliminated in the sixth week of the competition.
