Actress Anne Hathaway was born on 12 November 1982 in Brooklyn.

Raised in New Jersey, as a youngster Anne Hathaway performed on the stage. She also starred in the TV series Get Real. Although Anne Hathaway had appeared in movies before, her breakthrough was in the film, The Princess Diaries (2001). Hathaway played Mia, a San Franciscan teenager, coached by her grandmother to become heir to the fictional throne of Genovia.

In an amusing interview with the BBC, Anne Hathaway was asked: "How worried are you that this movie might typecast you?" And jokingly replied: "Well, actually, in my next movie, I am playing a drug-addled prostitute ..."

Anne Hathaway was named one of People Magazine's 'Breakthrough Stars of 2001'.

Another significant role for Anne Hathaway was her appearance in 2004 in Ella Enchanted.

Hathaway played Jake Gyllenhaal's wife in the critically acclaimed Brokeback Mountain. Anne Hathaway also played Jane Austen in Becoming Jane and Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada.

In 2007, in The Tatler, Anne Hathaway revealed that she suffered from depression as a teenager. I

n 2008, People reported: "Anne Hathaway's boyfriend of the past four years, Italian property developer Raffaelo Follieri, was arrested Thursday and charged with trying to pass a bad check ..." Shortly after splitting from Raffaello Follieri, who was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison, Anne Hathaway started going out with actor Adam Schulman.

In October 2008, it was reported that Anne Hathaway would star as the White Queen in Tim Burton's Disney version of Alice in Wonderland.

Anne Hathaway was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for her work on Rachel Getting Married. In January 2009, she was also nominated for an Oscar for best actress for Rachel Getting Married.

Anne Hathaway also starred alongside Kate Hudson in Bride Wars.

In March 2009, Anne Hathaway was contracted to play Judy Garland in both Broadway and film adaptations of Gerald Clarke's biography, Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland.

In June 2010 it was revealed that Anne Hathaway had been cast in the film adaptation of David Nicholls' novel One Day. In 2011, Anne Hathaway was cast as Catwoman / Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan's third Batman movie.

In 2013, she won an Oscar for best supporting actress for her work on Les Miserables.

In 2019, she was cast alongside Rebel Wilson in the comedy film The Hustle.
