John Wick trained at Sandhurst and served in the Parachute Regiment and the Special Air Service (SAS).
After retiring from the military, John Wick formed a company called ISMG, which was wound up by liquidators in December 2008.
He then formed the corporate risk management company International Security Solutions Limited (ISSL), which, for example, negotiates the release of hostages and deals with the threat of piracy.
John Wick was a 60-year-old Conservative Party supporter, twice divorced when he struck the whistleblowing deal over MPs' expenses with The Telegraph.
He has two daughters and goes out with a dental nurse, Tania Hayes.
Mr Wick was not the actual source of the leak of MPs' expenses, but was brought in to help to find a buyer.
