Stephen Gately was born on 17 March 1976 in Dublin.

He was a member of Boyzone, the boy band put together by Louis Walsh, that achieved six Number 1 singles during their seven years together.

Boyzone were the first group in history to have 15 consecutive top three singles.

In May 2006, Stephen Gately married Andy Cowles in a private civil partnership ceremony.

They had started dating after Stephen Gately split from Eloy de Jong in 2002.

The Guardian describes how The Sun came by the story that Stephen Gately was gay.

As well as embarking on a solo career, Gately had long stints in lead roles in musicals such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Wizard of Oz.

Stephen Gately, who was partnered by Kristina Lenko, was the fourth person to be voted off Dancing On Ice in 2007.

In May 2008, the five members of Boyzone, Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch, Mikey Graham, Keith Duffy as well as Stephen Gately, reunited and began a UK tour.

In October 2009, Stephen Gately died aged 33.

On 22 January 2010, the BBC reported that a Spanish judge had confirmed that Stephen Gately had died of natural causes.
