Matthew Wolfenden was born in 1980, the son of a teacher and a shop manager.

From 5 to 16 years old, he used to do gymnastics.

He trained as a dancer at university.

In an interview with Unreality TV Matthew Wolfenden explained the circumstances behind his first job in musicals:

"I was in a musical version of Romeo and Juliet and I covered Tybalt and he had a couple of solos in that. So that's probably my earliest professional singing memory, going on stage for my understudy as Tybalt and standing on this big stage at the Piccadilly Theatre and singing this solo."

Matthew Wolfenden is most famous for playing Eric Pollard's son David Metcalfe in Emmerdale.

He told Digital Spy how he had first auditioned for the part of Eli Dingle in Emmerdale, before getting the David Metcalfe role.

Matthew Wolfenden and his partner Charley Webb, who plays Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale, have a son, Buster.

In 2007 Wolfenden took part in Soapstar Superstar.

In 2012, Matthew Wolfenden won Dancing on Ice.

He was paired with the ice skater Nina Ulanova.
