George Takei was 71-years-old when he became a contestant on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

George Takei lasted to the final day of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and came third.

George Takei is well known for his roles in two sci-fi cult TV series: as Mr Sulu in Star Trek and as Hiro's father, Kaito Nakamura, in Heroes.

In An Audience with George Takei, the actor revealed how some of his family were of Japanese origin and living in America before they decided to return to Japan just before the USA's entry into World War II.

Meanwhile George Takei and his immediate family were in an internment camp in northern California and it was not until after the war that they discovered George's mother's parents had survived the war, but his aunt died carrying her newborn baby.

George Takei is active in social and political issues. He served on the Southern California Rapid Transit District board for 11 years and was an appointee of President Clinton's on the Japan-US Friendship Commission.

He also received The Order of the Rising Sun from the Emperor of Japan.

In June 2008 George Takei and his partner of 21 years Brad Altman married after California lifted its ban on same-sex marriages.

George Takei used to run marathons, however after foot surgery he gave up running and took up walking instead.
