Ben Ellis was 18 when he entered Any Dream Will Do.

Ben did very well, but went out in the semi-finals of Any Dream Will Do, after losing a sing-off against Lewis Bradley.

Nevertheless, soon after Any Dream Will Do, Ben Ellis was cast as Link Larkin in the stage version of Hairspray.

Ben Ellis hails from Scarborough, but when he was 16 moved to London to try to get a foothold as an actor and / or singer.

At the time of Any Dream Will Do, Ben Ellis was studying Musical Theatre at The Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts and was living in Hackney in East London.

In the first week of voting in Any Dream Will Do, Ben and Chris Crosby received the two lowest number of votes, but Ben survived the sing-off.

Ben Ellis told the BBC's Any Dream Will Do website that:

"I had seen Joseph three times and had memorised the whole score by the age of ten."

Ben also mentioned that his career highlight had been working with John Barrowman.
