Les Hamilton was a letterpress printer but became most famous for his central role in the Falklands War.
He was a radio ham in Clydebank when on 2 April 1982, he received a short-wave radio message from Bill McLeod, a friend in the Falklands, saying that the islands had been invaded by Argentina. He immediately passed the vital information to the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Les continued to provide valuable information for the MoD by communicatiing with Tony Pole-Evans, a farmer living on tiny Saunders Island, about 80 miles north-west of Port Stanley, during the war.
Les had been a radio ham from a very early age and received the GM3ITN call sign when he was 15 years old.
