Meliz Serman from Chingford was 23 when she entered the BBC's How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?

Unfortunately for Meliz she was the third potential Maria to be knocked out. Andrew Lloyd Webber told her, "I think you're more of a pop/rock star." The viewers had boiled it down to Helena Blackman or Meliz and Andrew had the final say.

At the time of How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria, Meliz was studying for her MA in Performance Studies at City University.

In July 2006, Meliz Serman gave a lunchtime concert in Enfield. She was mezzo-soprano and performed with Rebecca Bouckley (soprano) and Clare Clements on piano.

Meliz was a presenter on Nickelodeon at the tender age of 14. She has also sung in a funk/soul band, The Funkadrome.

Meliz Serman lives with her family who are Turkish Cypriots and she worked as a fashion PA for four years.
