Mim Shaikh's parents lived in Dudley, but they broke up and his mother had learning difficulties, so he was brought up by his grandmother and lost contact with his father.
His search for his father was the subject of a BBC documentary Mim made entitled Finding Dad.
He grew up in Mitcham and studied at Rutlish High School and Coombe Sixth Form, before going to Leeds University, where he hosted an award-winning music show on the Leeds Student Radio.
Mim Shaikh worked at Wise Buddah Group producing for the BBC Asian Network before starting presenting in 2015.
He has presented on BBC Radio 1Xtra and BBC Asian Network.
Mim has other strings to his bow, including running a popular YouTube channel, and acting.
In the summer of 2019, Mim Shaikh became a contestant on Celebrity MasterChef.
