Ben Collins was born on February 13, 1977 in Bristol, but spent his early childhood in the USA.

Ben Collins, who began in motor sport in 1994, has a wide experience of motor racing including international Formula 3, Indy Lights, GTs, World Sportscars and NASCAR.

In 1995, he was nominated for the BRDC Autosport Driver of the Year.

Ben Collins also has experience as a stunt driver for film and television, for example, driving James Bond's Aston Martin in Quantum of Solace.

In 2006 Ben Collins broke the record for Side Wheeling Through the Narrowest Gap.

Ben Collins was the presenter of Xtreme Teen Drivers on BBC Three.

In 2010 he was revealed as The Stig, the anonymous driver on Top Gear. He was not the only Stig. The first Stig, Perry McCarthy, was dropped from the TV series in 2003 after his identity was revealed.

In 2010, the BBC lost a legal battle to prevent HarperCollins publishing Ben Collins's autobiography The Man In The White Suit, in which he revealed his identity as The Stig.

On 2 September 2010, The Sun reported that Ben Collins trained SAS heroes in escape and evade driving skills.

On 1 October 2010, Media Guardian reported that Channel 5 had hired Ben Collins to appear on Fifth Gear.
