Gaby Halberstam's Biography
Gaby Halberstam was born in a small mining town in South Africa and grew up in Durban and then Port Elizabeth.

Gaby's family left South Africa in September 1977, emigrating to England.
Gaby Halberstam studied at Henrietta Barnett school in north west London and Oxford University, where she gained a degree in English.
She then qualified as a lawyer and became a solicitor at a London city firm, Slaughter & May, where she met her future husband, Simon Halberstam. They have three children.
After leaving the law, Gaby Halberstam gained critical acclaim with her first novel, Blue Sky Freedom.
In 2009 Gaby Halberstam wrote her second book, The Red Dress, which like Blue Sky Freedom was set in South Africa.
