Who is Jimi Mistry?

Jimi Mistry was born in 1973 in Scarborough in Yorkshire.

Regarding his background, Jimi Mistry told the Ottawa Express:

"My mother was Irish Catholic, my father was Hindu; she was white, he was Indian; and it was England in the 1970s, a bit like the couple in East Is East."

Jimi Mistry lived in Manchester in the 1980s, but when he was 16, he moved to Cardiff and played in a thrash metal band for two years.

He then studied at the Birmingham School of Speech and Drama.

Mistry had small roles on film and was also cast in the Royal Court Theatre production of East Is East, before being cast as Khan's son Tariq in the acclaimed film version.

He also achieved major public awareness in the UK through his role as Dr. Fred Fonseca on EastEnders.

After EastEnders, significant film roles followed including Mistry starring as Ramu Gupta in The Guru.

As well as acting, Jimi Mistry regularly DJs across Europe.

Asked by film.com, how far he goes to secure a role, Jimi Mistry showed his determination:

"I need to do my best. I never forgive myself. I put in a lot of preparation to do some auditions. It's not like you turn up to meet a director and read your script. You've got to have voice coaching. You might have to change your appearance. It's not like you do it because you need the job. It's because you actually really want to play the role, and you tend to do as much as you can to get the role. That's what I like to perceive I do at every audition I go for."

In 2010 he was one of the celebrities on Strictly Come Dancing. Jimi Mistry was paired with Flavia Cacace. They were the fifth couple to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing.

In January 2013, Jimi Mistry and Flavia Cacace got married.

From 2013 to 2015, he acted in Coronation Street.
