Zara McDermott has been an operation officer for the Department of Energy and Climate Change and policy advisor at the Department of Education.
She studied at the Coopers' Company and Coborn School.
She came to widespread public attention when she appeared on Love Island. Her relationship with Adam Collard did not last outside the show and later on she started dating Made in Chelsea's Sam Thompson.
She has presented various BBC documentaries including Revenge Porn, Uncovering Rape Culture, and Disordered Eating.
She has also hosted the entertainment show Love In The Flesh on BBC Three.
Zara is an ambassador for the Shaping Us campaign for the Centre of Early Childhood.
In 2023, she was partnered with Graziano Di Prima on Strictly Come Dancing. They came 10th.
In July 2024, she revealed that she was involved in incidents in the Strictly training room that she now found "incredibly distressing" to watch back.
In February 2024, the BBC announced that it had commissioned a documentary presented by Zara McDermott, The Idaho Murders: Trial by TikTok, to be broadcast on BBC Three.
She also presented Ibiza: Secrets of the Party Island on BBC Three.
