Miley Cyrus shot to fame in March 2006 in the title role of the popular TV series Hannah Montana.
Miley Cyrus was born Destiny Hope Cyrus on November 23, 1992 in Nashville.
Her mother was Tish (Leticia Finley) and her father was Billy Ray Cyrus, whose Achy Breaky Heart spent five weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's country singles chart in 1992.
Miley Cyrus would often act alongside her father, for example in the TV series Doc, as well as on Hannah Montana, in which Billy Ray Cyrus portrays her screen father, Robby Stewart.
She was 13 when she landed the Hannah Montana role, after, according to People's biography of Miley Cyrus, "initially being rejected because she was too small, too young."
Miley Cyrus sang various tracks on a soundtrack CD of Hannah Montana and its follow-up album.
In April 2008, Reuters reported that Miley Cyrus had apologised for "two sets of photos in which she flashes her bra, lies across a boy's lap, and appears semi-nude."
In October 2008, the BBC reported that Miley Cyrus had finished writing a book of her life.
On 13 April 2009 Hannah Montana: The Movie, with Miley Cyrus starring, topped the US box office.
In 2009, Miley Cyrus, who previously went out with Nick Jonas, broke up with model Justin Gaston and then started dating Australian Liam Hemsworth who co-starred with her in the film The Last Song, which was released in 2010.
Her third studio album, Can't Be Tamed, was scheduled for release in the USA on June 22, 2010.

In August 2013, Miley Cyrus gained her first number one single in the UK with We Can't Stop.
In 2015, she became a coach on The Voice (USA).

In August 2019, it was revealed that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were getting divorced less than a year after they got married.
In March 2023, Miley Cyrus topped both the UK singles and album chart in the same week.
In 2024, she won her first Grammy when Flowers was recognised as 2023's record of the year; and she became the youngest-ever star to receive Disney legend status.
