Who is Ed Sheeran?

Ed Sheeran was born in Yorkshire on 17 February 1991.

His mother made jewellery and his father was an art historian, curator and lecturer.

He was brought up in Framlingham in Suffolk and for a while busked in London.

The singer / guitarist has proved an enormous popular and critical success in the music world.

He started out selling music on his own label, but it was in 2010, when he was noticed by the likes of Jamie Foxx and Jamal Edwards, that Ed Sheeran first broke through in a major way.

In March 2017, he had 9 of the top 10 singles in the UK!

His album ÷ became the third fastest selling album ever in the UK with 672,000 copies sold in its first week.

Only Adele's 25 and Oasis's Be Here Now sold more.

His two previous albums + and x were also bestsellers.

In July 2017, Ed Sheeran revealed that he had come off Twitter because of the abuse he received.

His account would remain open and share automatic updates from his Instagram page.

In January 2018, Ed Sheeran announced his engagement to Cherry Seaborn.

Although they only started going out in 2015, Ed and Cherry had known each other from an early age.

In 2019, it was revealed that Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn were married.

In October 2018, Sheeran was listed as the second richest celebrity aged under 30 in the UK with around £94m.

Divide was also the best selling album of the year.

In May 2019, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber had a number 1 single I Don't Care.

In July 2019, he released a new album entitled No. 6 Collaborations Project.

In October 2019, he was named the richest UK celebrity aged 30 or under by Heat with an estimated wealth of £170m.

In December 2019, Ed Sheeran was named 'artist of the decade' by the Official Charts Company.

On 1 September 2020, Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn announced the birth of their first child, a daughter named Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.

In February 2023, Ed Sheeran said he "spiralled" into depression after his wife was diagnosed with a tumour and his friend Jamal Edwards died aged 31.
