Who is George Clooney?

George Clooney was born on 6 May 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky.

His father Nick Clooney was a journalist and television host and his mother Nina Bruce was once a state beauty queen.

Before becoming an actor, George Clooney had various jobs including selling ladies shoes at McAlpine's, selling insurance door-to-door, and cutting tobacco.

He acted in various TV shows including playing George Burnett in The Facts Of Life; Detective James Falconer in Sisters; and Booker Brooks in Roseanne, but it was his role as Dr. Doug Ross in ER for which he became most famous.

George Clooney's early films included One Fine Day, The Peacemaker, Batman And Robin, Out Of Sight, Three Kings, and the Coen brothers' O Brother Where Art Thou?

Clooney originated the idea of remaking Ocean's Eleven, and he starred as Danny Ocean in the film and its sequels.

George Clooney also gained notable directing credits including Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind and Good Night And Good Luck.

Acting-wise he continued his relationship with the Coen brothers in their films Intolerable Cruelty and Burn After Reading.

George Clooney won an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for Syriana, which was released in 2005.

In the same year he was nominated for an Oscar for best director and best original screenplay for Good Night and Good Luck.

George Clooney continued to receive critical acclaim for his acting in films such as Michael Clayton and Up in the Air.

He is well known for being politically aware, however George Clooney spoke to Newsweek about why he would not run for political office:

"I didn't live my life in the right way for politics, you know. I f--ked too many chicks and did too many drugs, and that's the truth."

In 2010, George Clooney initiated the Satellite Sentinel Project (SSP) while on a trip to Southern Sudan with Enough Project Co-founder John Prendergast. It uses technology in an attempt to deter the resumption of war between North and South Sudan.

From 1989 to 1993, Geroge Clooney was married to the actress Talia Balsam. In 2010 the Telegraph carried an article about George Clooney's ex girlfriends including Kelly Preston, Celine Balitran, Lisa Snowdon, Traylor Howard, Renee Zellweger, Krista Allen, Sarah Larson, and Elisabetta Canalis, whom he started going out with in 2009.

In 2014, George Clooney directed and starred in The Monuments Men, which also featured Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon and Bill Murray.

Also in 2014, Clooney married the human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

In 2016, he starred as Baird Whitlock in Hail, Caesar!

In February 2017, it was revealed that Amal and George Clooney were expecting twins.

In 2017 George Clooney directed Suburbicon, starring Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, and Karimah Westbrook.

In 2019, he directed, executive produced and acted in a television adaptation of Catch 22, which also starred Hugh Laurie.
