Randy Jackson was born on 23rd June, 1956 in Louisiana.

He was a music producer and performer, who became a judge on the hit TV show American Idol.

Randy Jackson played electric bass guitar and was in a band called Journey. He also performed with artists such as Billy Joel and Bob Dylan.

In the 1990s Randy Jackson was an executive with Columbia Records and then MCA Records. During the nineties he also performed with and produced for people like Madonna, Elton John, and Mariah Carey.

Since 2002, when the show started, Randy Jackson has been a judge on American Idol alongside Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul.

In 2003, Randy Jackson had gastric bypass surgery which caused him to lose over 100lbs. This caused his appearance to change dramatically by the start of series 3.

In May 2013, it was revealed that Randy Jackson was to leave American Idol at the end of the current series. It was the show's twelfth season and Jackson had been there form the start.
