Simao Sabrosa's Biography
Like his famous Portuguese counterparts, Luís Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo, Simão Sabrosa went to Sporting's youth academy.
At 17 he scored on his debut for Sporting in their 3-0 win over Gil Vicente.
From 1999 to 2001 he had a stint at Barcelona before returning to Portugal when he was signed by Benfica, where he became captain and did not miss a penalty kick in roughly six years.
In 2007 he signed for Atletico Madrid with whom he won a UEFA Europa League medal in 2010.
Simão Sabrosa was the most-capped player in Carlos Quieroz's 2010 Portugal squad.
He had previously missed out on the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup because of injury, but Simão Sabrosa was a regular in the Portugal side that reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2006.
