Britney Spears's Biography
As a young child, Britney Spears appeared in dance revues and church choirs. Backed by her manager mother Lynne, Britney auditioned for the TV series The Mickey Mouse Club.
However, Britney Spears was only eight, and was therefore too young to participate. However it led to Spears meeting an agent, and she trained as a child actor with the Professional Performing Arts School Center.
When 11, Britney presented The Mickey Mouse Club with Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.
Author, Sean Smith has written that her first boyfriend was Donald Reginald Jones Jr, a judge's son.
Britney Spears broke into the pop world at the end of 1998 with her debut single and album 'Baby, One More Time'. Her second album 'Oops! I Did It Again' continued her commercial success.
Around the time of her third album, Britney Spears appeared in her debut film Crossroads (2002), which was slated by the critics.
After a break, Britney Spears returned in 2003, having announced that she had lost her virginity.
Her fourth album, 'In The Zone', released at the end of 2003 featured a collaboration with Madonna, "Me Against The Music". Earlier in the year, Britney had shared an on-screen kiss with Madonna during the MTV's Video Music Awards.
Britney Spears said in an interview with Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 1:
"We were both doing the VMAs together and we had the kissing scene and we were trying to figure out what the first single was gonna be, and I played her it to see what she thought, and as I was doing it, something came over me to just ask her to be in the song! And she said yes!"
In 2004, Britney managed to get married twice. First she married childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas. After just over two days, the marriage was annulled.
Shortly after she became engaged to Kevin Federline, a dancer on her aborted 2004 tour. They married in September in a private ceremony in Los Angeles.
2004 had also seen the release of 'Toxic'. The title track was accompanied by a raunchy video and raced to number one in the UK. It was followed by the successful release of 'Everytime'.
In April 2005, Britney Spears announced that she was pregnant. Kevin Federline had two young children from his relationship ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson, but in September 2005 Britney's first baby was born - a boy called Preston Michael.
Britney and Kevin: Chaotic, the reality TV show featuring Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, started transmission in 2005.
In May 2006, Britney announced on The David Letterman Show that she was pregnant again and on 12 September she and Kevin Federline had their second boy, Jayden James Federline.
However, less than a couple of months later Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, filed for divorce.
In September 2007, Britney Spears gave her first major performance in three years when she appeared at the MTV Video Music Awards.
In September 2008, after a troubled year, Britney was back at the MTV Video Music Awards, collecting three prizes for Piece of Me.
In October 2009, Britney Spears went straight to number one in the US chart with her single 3.
In December 2011, People magazine reported that Britney Spears and Jason Trawick were engaged.
However, in January 2013, they ended their engagement.
In January 2019, she announced that she was having a break from work to look after her father Jamie who was recovering from surgery.
In September 2019, because of health reasons her father stepped down as her conservator (guardianship) after 11 years, and was replaced by Britney's care-giver, Jodi Montgomery.
The guardianship had began in 2008, after Britney was placed in psychiatric care having refusing to relinquish custody of her children.
In August 2020, the BBC reported: "Britney Spears has asked a court not to return her father Jamie to a role that gave him control over many aspects of her life and career.
"Jamie Spears has been his daughter's legal conservator for 12 years, due to concerns around her mental health."
In November 2020, a court rejected an attempt by Britney Spears to have her father removed as conservator of her estate.
In September 2021 Britney Spears father, Jamie Spears, filed papers to end the conservatorship.
Soon after that Britney announced her engagement to Sam Asghari.
In August 2022, Britney and Sir Elton John recorded a duet, called Hold Me Closer.
