John Arne Riise's Biography
Riise started his career with Aalesunds F.K, but was scouted by AS Monaco, and moved to the French side, soon after.
However, it was at Liverpool where John Arne Riise really made his impact on football, and he couldn’t have started much better.
On 24th August, 2001, John Arne Riise made his debut for Liverpool, in the European Super Cup, against Bayern Munich.
The game ended 3-2 to Liverpool, including a goal by Riise, and so he won his first piece of silverware, in his first match for the club.
Three weeks later, in the Merseyside derby against Everton, John Arne Riise scored again but this time, an incredible solo effort. In his first season at Liverpool, he managed to clock up 10 goals, which is very impressive for a left back, and from then on he has been known for his powerful left foot shots.
Over the next 2 seasons, John Arne Riise's form varied, however, in 2004-05, Riise played a starring role, in Liverpool’s Champions League tournament victory.
He came up with a few important goals through the tournament, but arguably his most important action was in the final, when he supplied the cross, which Steven Gerrard converted with his head.
This sparked off Liverpool's comeback, from 3-0 down against AC Milan. The match finished 3-3 and Liverpool won on penalties.
John Arne Riise is a regular in the Norwegian side. He also played for Norway U16s, U17s, U18s, U19s and U21s.
In 2007, Liverpool colleague Craig Bellamy lost control with John Arne Riise and confronted him with a golf club, on a team bonding trip to Portugal.
However, soon after, the pair put it behind them and they each scored a goal in Liverpool's important Champions League win against Barcelona.
In March 2007, the BBC reported that John Arne Riise had been declared bankrupt by Liverpool County Court for an unpaid debt of around £100,000. According to the BBC, Riise was involved in a legal battle with his former agent, Einar Baardsen.
He was transferred to Roma from Liverpool for £4 million before the start of the 2008/9 season.
John Arne Riise's brother is the footballer Bjorn Helge Riise.
In July 2011, John Arne joined Bjorn at Fulham, after they signed him from Roma.
Subsequently his clubs have included APOEL, Delhi Dynamos, and Aalesunds FK.
