Patrick James John Eddery was born on March 18, 1952 at Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland.

His father Jimmy Eddery was a champion jockey in Ireland.

Pat Eddery's first ride was on True Time at the Curragh on August 19, 1967

His first winner came a couple of years later on Alvaro at Epsom, April 24, 1969.

His last ride was on Gamut at Doncaster on November 8, 2003.

Pat Eddery was Champion jockey 11 times. 1974-77, 1986, 1988-91, 1993, 1996.

In 1990 he rode 209 winners in a season.

In total he was a winning jockey in Britain 4,632 times.

Highlights include winning the 1000 Guineas on Bosra Sham; the 2000 Guineas on Lomond, El Gran Senor, and Zafonic; the Derby on Grundy, Golden Fleece and Quest For Fame; the Oaks on Polygamy Scintillate and Lady Carla; and the St Leger on Moon Madness, Toulon, Moonax, and Silver Patriarch.

Eddery was awarded an OBE in 2005.

Pat Eddery died in November 2015, aged 63.
